Mid and Later Life Career Management
Evidence based career management for mid and later life careers - planning the second stage of your career to meet life and work goals.
Are you thinking about your second - or even third - curve of your career?

Perhaps you’ve been in the same role for years and know something needs to change, but you’re not sure what.
Maybe you want to redesign the way you work to make more space for your life.
You might be considering a portfolio career, or beginning to think about retirement and wondering what that could look like for you.

These are very common questions in mid and later life - and they often come at a time when people have worked hard, built considerable expertise, and are now asking more thoughtful questions about wellbeing, purpose, and time.

I believe that our working lives can be shaped to support our life needs in mid and later life, rather than competing with them.

Why This Matters
Earlier in my career, I worked in the pensions industry and saw first-hand how a lack of planning for later life affected people - financially, emotionally, and in terms of identity.

During my own midlife career transition into occupational psychology, I experienced how profound a change in identity and way of working can be. It was not simply a career change, but a re-thinking of how I wanted my life to feel.
For the past 15 years, I have supported people to plan and navigate their second careers through coaching. Alongside this, I completed doctoral research exploring why people recareer later in life and developed an evidence-based coaching framework to support this transition. A book based on my research and practice is due to be released by Routledge in august 2026.

In my previous career I worked in the pensions industry and could see how lack of planning for retirement impacted people both personally and financially. In my own mid life career transition to become an Occupational Psychologist, I realised the impact of a change of identity and way of working could have.
Many people I work with have deep experience, strong skills, and successful careers behind them. What they want now is not necessarily something “bigger” but something truer.

Often this means:

-
More time with family and friends
-
Space to focus on health and wellbeing
-
Time for hobbies and interests
-
A way of working that feels sustainable
Again and again, people tell me they simply want the freedom to walk their dog and enjoy the walk, without the constant pressure of emails, meetings, and mental load.
